Variable Waveplates
A Variable Waveplate is a retarder with a variable index of refraction along
the slow axis. Variable Waveplates can be used to tune a retarder to a specific
wavelength of light, shift the retardation value for a single wavelength of
light, or as a pure phase modulator for a linear polarized light beam.
Boulder Nonlinear Systems manufactures and sells liquid crystal based Variable
Waveplates on a custom designed basis for applications requiring active control
of beam retardance along a single axis. Key features of our Variable Waveplates
include continuously variable retardation and high transmission. Since these
devices are solid state – undesirable mechanical motion, associated noise,
and vibration problems are eliminated.
Boulder Nonlinear Systems offers our CV Series of Variable Waveplates. Key features
include continuously variable slow axis index of refraction and high transmission.
