New PhaseFlat Spatial Light Modulator

August, 2005 — Lafayette, Colorado. August 2, 2005 – Today, Boulder Nonlinear Systems, Inc. (BNS) announced the release of their new XY PhaseFlat Series Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs). This new product utilizes a software tool allowing SLM users to quickly and easily compensate for wavefront distortions inherent in any optical system.

Based on the original 512 x 512 XY Phase Series SLMs, the new XY PhaseFlat Series offers significantly improved wavefront distortion performance via a new software tool. This software tool utilizes the phase modulation capabilities of the SLM to compensate for phase errors inherent to the SLM and/or phase errors associated with the optical system. By measuring phase errors with an interferometer, an image representing those errors, or the zernike polynomials, can be used to compensate for them.

According to BNS President and Director of R&D Steve Serati, “This advancement provides a further illustration of our commitment to leverage technology developments across the board – in pure science, hardware, and software. By integrating this new tool, we enable system level correction beyond what was believed possible just months ago.”

Product Data Sheets describing this new product version are now available on the BNS website (www.bnonlinear.com).

“The addition of this new tool to our SLM arsenal is a tremendous breakthrough. User performance naturally improves, as the SLMs deliver higher quality optical performance. At the same time, we expect to see carryover value in our manufacturing yield by taking advantage of the available correction. We are excited about this product release and look forward to expanding it across the SLM line-up,” Serati continues.
